The Frouron Protates are called the "Guardians of Truth”. They are a Holy Order of bodyguard priests recruited from non-noble, tribal peoples inhabiting the fringes of the Ten Kingdoms. After going through years of rigorous training, a Frouron Protate is assigned to government officials, noble families, ambassadors, and generals to guard for the rest of their lives. Expected to lay down their own life o save that of their charge, if they outlive them in combat, Frouron Protates are often severely punished.

From hulking bestial warriors from the Wildlands of Barbania to agile, lithe blademasters of the Worldspine Mountains, Frouron Protates come in many shaped and sizes. However, the customary heavy armor and long-bladed weapons of the holy order are typical, as they provide the best opportunity to protect their charges.

All Frouron Protate recruits are given over to D’Kaiosyni the Goddess of Justice, before the age of ten. Taken to the city-isle of Isustad where the holy order's headquarters has stood for more than a thousand years, each recruit is judged for worthiness by the Matia, the Eyes of the Gods. If they pass the Judgement, they are entered into the intense training curriculum which lasts from 8 to 10 years.

At the end of their training, each potential Frouron Protate is assigned an apprenticeship to a governmental position on Isulstad for two years. They might be assigned to local law enforcement branches such as the City Watch or the Investigations Magical Occurences Bureau (IMOB), where they will learn how to conduct investigations and hunt down perpetrators. Or they might be assigned to the Harbourmaster's Guild to keep watch on more mercantile matters or to the Consilium of Isulstad to guard the very halls that the Kings and Lords decide the most important political matters. Wherever a Frouron Protate serves in their apprenticeship, they learn a specific set of skills that will aid them in their lifelong assignment which comes after its completion.
