A city of mystic wonder, the gem of the Sapphire Sea, Tetricala stands on a promontory of land in Thelune's Gap. Filled with traders from lands across the Three Continents, the city has thrived under the power of the Matriarchs, descendants of Emperor Anaxaneas himself, through one of his daughters.
The city has stood as a Polis in its own right for over 1000 years, avoiding being gobbled up by the nearby growing states of Telephos and Rhodezephrys. This is much due to the aid of her alliances with Bensilot and the Followers of Yama as well as the magical power of the Matriarchs. Few still know of the arcane secrets from the ancient days, but in the Tower of Farsight, the great wizard Balthuzziarr has collected the greatest library to date, with scrolls dating back to the times when the Gods walked among humans. Even Isulstad's library cannot boast the antiquity and profundity of the Tower of Farsight. But that is not its only claim to fame, as its keepers are all powerful wizards.
Between Balthuzziarr and the Matriarch, Tetricala seems safe. The people are content, though the looming threat of the Khaganate of Rhodezephrys is palpable in the hinterlands. People flee from night raids, refugees stream into the city, while the richest citizens begin to consider how to quietly sell their property and leave the city, not wanting to be caught up in a siege.
