Name: Frouron Protate Galdur Rune
Age: 42
Appearance:
Galdur stands tall and strong at a height of 6'2". His dusky skin bears witness to the toll of his training and magical powers, causing him to age faster than other men. His black and grey streaked beard frames a face marked by deep lines and scars, giving his smile a crooked, grim appearance. Sorrow has left its imprint in his sunken, yet hard and serious, eyes. The deep blue color of his eyes is accentuated by yellow lightning bolts that strike through them.
Embracing the role of a Frouron Protate, Galdur wears the dark grey and maroon lacquered steel armor of his order, meticulously kept clean and polished, and covered by the blue tabard of House Mok bearing the Black Falcon upon his chest. His round shield proudly displays the Eye of the Matia in blazing yellow and red hues. Underneath his armor, he wears immaculate mithril chainmail. Armed for battle, he carries a short curved sword and dagger upon his belt, a quiver of throwing darts hangs upon his back, and a double-headed great axe rests upon his shoulder.
Rarely is he found not dressed in his armor, as it is his sacred duty to forever be watchful and ready to defend his charge. But on those rare occasions, he prefers bright red and orange patterns that remind him of his distant childhood home and the bustling markets of Isulstad.
Background:
Galdur was given to the Matia by his father, a minor lord of the border region of Southern Telkhion, at age eight. Consequently, he remembers little of his life before moving to Isulstad but those bright flashes were joyful, full of the love of a mother who cared for him. The memory of being pried from her grasp by a cruel faced Acquizitor of the Matia is seared into his mind, though he tries to forget it.
As the youngest son, he was entrusted to the Frouron Protates of the Matia. However, his other siblings all perished over the years, now leaving one to rule their ancestral lands (though he does not know this at the onset of the book).
His years training to become a Frouron Protate on Isulstad proved his prowess, as he was seen as one of the most promising candidates, with many assuming that he would be assigned to be the bodyguard of a king or queen of the Consilium realms. However, when he was assigned to House Mok, a minor Duke only nominally part of the Kingdom of Benselot, most figured he had angered the wrong officials.
He still does not know why he was assigned to guard Lord Mok, but the Matia prophesied that a great scion who would impact the shaping of the world for millennia to come would be born to House Mok. Wanting to keep this scion safe and begin to sink their claws into the happenings of the region that he would govern, Isvieldara, the Matia sent Galdur there, hoping that none would notice their interest.
Demeanor and Trials:
Galdur's upbringing molded him into a serious and disciplined individual, devoid of laughter in his youth. However, his disposition began to shift as he forged bonds with his now lover Nieyette and the Old Lord Mok whom he became good friends with. He found joy in their presence and in his life in Isvieldara that he never expected to have. Guarding young Lord Neokleus Mok has further instilled happiness into his demeanor as the young man’s vigor for life is catching.
Motivations and Loyalties:
Galdur's unwavering commitment to duty drives him to guard his charge, regardless of which Lord Mok holds the title. Despite his close ties to them— and breaking of the law by taking a lover— he remains steadfast in his loyalty to the Frouron Protates and the Matia. Galdur's path is marked by the weight of his responsibilities and the trials that have shaped him into the bodyguard and advisor he has become.
