Abnaawaa are a mysterious jackal-headed peoples, sometimes called the cynocephali by outsiders, who live deep in the desert.

They are adherents to the cults of the demigod jackal-headed children of Obmhann. His sons are Wepwawet, Khentyamentiu, and Duamutef, and his daughters are named Qébéhout and Yineput. Each presides over a different element of the cult of Obmhann ReHeaded with their Abnaawaa servants performing the most ancient rituals. Though the cult is strongest in Rhodezephyrus, there are significant numbers of human and elfien adherents who live with the Abnawaa in the Desert of Nuru and the Desolate Wastes west of Tetricala in Northern Rhodezephyrus.

Legends say that the Abnaawaa chose to become what they are after the decapitation of Obmhann, the first Abnaawaa being his closest companions and adherents at his nadir.
